New work, new photos and Friday's creation

New work:  recycled timber block and square brooches, and more typographic brooches - especially for those who love a font!

New photos:  I decided that my Etsy shop photos needed a little makeover. Slowly I'm updating the photos and making them a little more "artsy" - boy is it a tedious task (I didn't realise how much stuff I've been making and listing over the last few months). Love to see your comments on these......too artsy? not descriptive enough? want to see more?

Friday's creation: gingerbread cookies with the wee one. He ate all the uncooked dough I gave him to cut his cookies from. Ewww....well at least the cookie dough I cut out made it to the oven!

Colour inspiration

I have been asked many times where I get the inspiration for the colour combinations I use when making my jewellery.  Sometimes it is from the most mundane sources.  Like the other day when I was looking for embroidery thread for a new cross stitch project (I'll show you that soon!).  I thought the colours where so beautiful lined up in the box, I just had to share.  And that combination in the second photo definitely has bones for a whole scheme to be built around it! Yummy.

Star of the Show

Some pics from the Shoe Show at Craft Vic currently, starring my friend Emma.

My place and yours

I'm not usually one for joining in these things, but I liked the subject here on Pip's blog, and since I seem to be accumulating quite a few things on shelves around this place, there was plenty of inspiration.  This subject is next to my bedside, residing in our bay window shelf actually.  Don't you think she's elegant? Yet another find from my recent stint in Brisvegas.

Shoes on show

My friend Emma is one talented woman. I really do admire what she can create with a little bit of leather and a lot of expertise.  In comparison my leather creations seem like mere folly.
She has an exhibition (along with five other shoe makers) opening tonight at Craft Victoria. And she shall also be revealing some of her alchemy on Saturday at 2pm, so get along to Craft Victoria to hear some wisdom. I'll be there listening intently like the nerdy kid at the front of the class!

Still life with thrifty finds

Yes, I know, I'm boasting again about some thrifty finds. I picked these babies up at an Op Shop in Brisvegas and at the Chandler Market (we were up at 6am to get to that one).  I had good intentions to get to the Portside Markets that day too, hoping to see some talented crafty folk. But after a 6am start it just did not happen! Sorry Kim! Perhaps on my next visit north I shall get there.
One other spot I did get to (after the necessary visit to Reverse Garbage) was the gorgeous Nook, at 19 Browning St, West End.  They have a gorgeous array of work by local craftspeople. I picked up one of Aunty Cookie's Alphacookie panels there. Not sure what to do with it yet....any ideas??

Paper arts

My Mum makes crafty stuff.  Lots of it.  I am in the midst of putting some pics of her work on my Flickr page.  One of her favourite passions is decoupage.  She attends a regular workshop with Nerida Singleton, who I think may be Australia's own guru on all things decoupage.  This piece is one of my Mum's latest creations.  The artwork is by Alphonse Mucha, and it's been framed in a circular timber frame that my Grandfather made. Lovely.

Beauty is in the eye......

You know concrete is an amazing building material.  Cast your mind to some of the architectural feats that Harry Seidler achieved with it.
But hang on there! Don't go getting too carried away with the glory of it all.  No, no. Take a look at this.  It is someone's home. In a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland.
Hmmmmm......I don't really know what else to say, except that I guess you really CAN get anything built, if you really want to.

A visit North

Back from our visit North. Lots of sun, home cooked food (thanks Mum!) and relaxing, lazy days. I even squeezed in a little shopping sans small person! Here are some pictorial highlights from my Mum's garden. More pics to come this week.

New creations

I made these babies a week ago for a special request on my Etsy store, along with two other pairs. I like the grey and off white combo. So what's new you say?? Well if you look closely you may notice that these earrings are in fact circular rather than the usual elliptical.  Anyway something to leave you with while I'm off to the northern state for some warm weather. See you in a week! (they'll be listed in my store when I return, unless you feel the need to nab them beforehand!)

Little Shop of Handmade

Did I tell you that I have a new stockist for Mainichi wares? The Little Shop of Handmade opened recently in Carnegie, and stocks wares from Melbourne based makers, all under fifty, yes 50, buckaroonees. Go check it out, while you are in the neighbourhood Huff makes great bagels.  Oh yes, Bec who runs Little Shop also has a blog.
